Dear Members, Partners, and our Allies,

Warm Greetings from the TCI Secretariat,

People with psychosocial disabilities continue to be discriminated and are left behind in the community with no access to health, educational, social, economic and cultural opportunities. There are massive investments being carried out in establishing new institutions or improving the existing ones. People with psychosocial disabilities are segregated from the mainstream community and are sent to (often forcefully) mental asylums, rehabilitation centers, psychiatric clinics, nursing homes and a variety of care institutions, facing long term confinement and isolation.

People with psychosocial disabilities are still confined to the mental health legal systems which take away our legal capacity to explore opportunities, take risks, make our own decisions and enjoy all fundamental human rights, on an equal basis to others.

In this context, we are pleased to share a survey questionnaire with our members and networks on "Situation of Persons with Psychosocial Disabilities in Institutions and Urgency to Deinstitutionalize". The objective of this survey is to develop a global report on the situation of persons with psychosocial disabilities in institutions and the immediate need for de-institutionalization.
