The Pacific Disability Forum (PDF) is a regional peak body that works in partnership with disabled persons organisations in the Pacific region.  Our aim is to build the capacity of these organisations and improve the lives of persons with disabilities in the Pacific through advocacy.

An exciting 12-month consultancy opportunity now exists for a well-qualified and experienced specialist for an important climate change research project.

The Climate Change Research Specialist is responsible for undertaking research activities to support the work of the Preparedness Emergency & Response Unit (PERU) at PDF. S/he is responsible for the development of a capacity development assessment tool to engage in a dialogue with regional stakeholders and specialists, as well as support the design of capacity development interventions. S/he reports to the PERU Manager and will be responsible for driving the following critical outcomes for the organisation:

*         Capacity development and technical support effectively developed and implemented

o   Capacity development tool developed, implemented and monitored effectively
o   Effective buddy DPO system ensure

*         Strategically aligned activities

o   Project based research according to Pacific Disability Inclusive Preparedness for Response Strategy (PDIPfR)
o   Research documentation published, and reports submitted accordingly

*         Effective project management

o   Development and implementation of PERU climate change workplan aligned to PDIPfR
o   Prudent and transparent management of project funds including funds to DPOs

*         Productive joint climate partnership support unit, GESI specialist and UNDP climate change partnership program

*         Timely provision of relevant and accurate programme and project related information/reports provided to all stakeholders

*         The person we seek will have a minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role. A postgraduate degree in Management, Planning, Policy, Humanities and or Social Science will be an added advantage.

The applicant must possess the following:

*         At least a Degree in Humanities/Social Sciences, Disability Studies, and community development or related field.
*         Sound knowledge and proven expertise in research methodologies, including in data collection and analysis, research applications and report development
*         Familiarity with CROP agencies and stakeholder policies to enable and influence inclusive dialogue on key ASKs on regional meeting agendas
*         Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
