Dear civil society colleagues,

Ensuring safe, open, free and enabling space for civil society to mobilize is essential to creating a world free of violence against women and girls and one where the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals are met. The United Nations is thus seeking feedback from civil society on the issue of civic space and will be organizing online consultations with civil society organizations from 13 to 24 January 2020.

Please note that these consultations are not held by the Spotlight Initiative. However, your voluntary participation would be integral to voice the importance and particular needs of civil society actors working to end violence against women and girls, including Women Human Rights Defenders.

We would like to share the below announcement with you from the United Nations:

Since November 2018, OHCHR and UN-Women have been working to better understand and to strengthen the UN's engagement with civil society organizations.

Between April-May 2019 OHCHR and UN Women conducted a UN-wide online survey. In total, 100 responses were received: 32 HQ and 68 field entities (57 UN Country Teams and 11 Peace Missions).
