Notice about the Pacific DPO Fund Review
Warm Pacific greetings to all of you and trust you are keeping well and safe at this challenging time. This email serves to inform all of you that we are undertaking a review of the Pacific DPO Fund as detailed below, and that some of you will be requested to participate in this important piece of work.
The Pacific Disability Forum (PDF) has managed and administered the Pacific DPO Fund since 2009 through the generous funding assistance of the Governments of Australia and New Zealand as well as Australia-Pacific Islands Disability Support (APIDS). This funding stream focuses on "improving the lives of persons with disability by supporting the organisational development and project work of Pacific Disabled Persons Organisations (DPOs").
The Fund is committed to regular reviews to ensure it continues to meet its goals. The first review was finalised in 2014 and the report presented to the PDF General Forum in February 2015. In 2020, the DPO Fund Committee with the endorsement of the PDF Board commissioned a second review to be carried out between May to September 2020. Christina Parasyn, Independent Consultant, will undertake the review in consultation with the community of stakeholders who have been, are now, or could in future be involved in the Pacific DPO Fund in some way.
To make the review meaningful, we would like to hear from you! Your input into how the fun works, what has been achieved, what you might like the fund to support, what information might help you understand the fund better is extremely important to us. We want the review to help us learn about the fund, learn how to improve on it and help us to reach out for more funding.
We value cultural and traditional ways of communicating and had planned for the review to allow us to meet face to face to share stories, experiences and views. Unfortunately, the global pandemic is forcing us to work in more remote ways, which means the review needs to be done remotely for the safety and health of all of us. This will include surveys, phone calls, chat and web platforms. We will look for ways to have direct dialogue with you if this is your preference.
In the next day or two, we will be sending out a survey inviting your participation into Stage 1 of the review. Stage 1 will help us set the review focus and scope and help us learn how best to communicate with you. Please look out for this survey and have your say.
The principle of "nothing about us without us" is very important to us. We want to make sure people with disabilities are at the centre of the review process and that the diversity of the disability movement is represented in the review. Accessibility is important to us so please let us know along the way what accommodations can be made so you can participate.
How and when will the review happen?
The review has four (4) stages:
* Stage 1: Develop and agree the review focus, scope and method. This will be called the "Review Framework". (June 2020)
* Stage 2: Collect information (June-July 2020)
* Stage 3: Analyse the information collected; and agree the conclusions and recommendations (July-August 2020)
* Stage 4: Report back to the DPO Fund Committee, PDF Board, and the DPO Fund Community (August-September 2020)
We look forward to your active participation and contribution to this important review to ensure the Pacific DPO Fund remains relevant, responsive, effective and efficient.
