[PDF-fullMembers] Amendments to the PDF Constitution

To All PDF Full and Associate Members

Warm Pacific greetings to each one of you. I wish to draw to your attention that the PDF Secretariat is now inviting from Full and Associate Members of the Pacific Disability Forum (PDF) any proposed amendment(s) to the PDF Constitution to be presented and discussed at the PDF General Forum to be held at the Tanoa International Hotel, Nadi, Fiji on Monday, 25th February 2019. This General Forum is part of the 6th Pacific Regional Conference on Disability organised by the PDF at the same venue from 25 February to 01 March 2019.

This notice is in line with the PDF Constitution Clause 11.4, "Alteration and Amendment to the Constitution" which states that amendments to the PDF Constitution shall be tabled for consideration and approval at General Meetings, and that any proposed amendment to be sent to the Secretariat two months before the meeting, who then will circulate such amendment to all members of the PDF at least fourteen days before the meeting.

Therefore, the deadline for the receipt of any submission on a proposed amendment to the PDF Constitution will be Tuesday, 25 December 2018 to satisfy the requirement of the above-mentioned clause in the current PDF Constitution which is also attached for your reference and information.

When proposing an amendment, please use the following format:

1.       Identify the clause number and title,

2.       State the clause in its current format,

3.       Include the change you are proposing to make in that particular clause,

4.       Re-write the clause to include your proposed amendment,

5.       Give your reason(s) for the amendment.

I have pasted below an amendment received in the past as an example.

"Clause 7 Registered Office

Current:
"The registered office of the PDF shall be located in a country as determined by the Council"

Change:
Insert "Pacific Island" before the word 'country'.

To Read:
The registered office of the PDF shall be located in a Pacific Island Country as determined by the Council from time to time.

Reason:

?  Limiting the location to be in a Pacific Island country avoids leaving the meaning open to being any country possibly outside the region."
