WASLI Oceania Interpreters Conference 2025 – Save the Date!

The World Association of Sign Language Interpreters (WASLI) Oceania will host its regional conference from 26–29 August 2025, themed "One Ocean, Many Cultures".

This milestone event will bring together interpreters, Deaf leaders, trainers, and stakeholders from across the Pacific, Australia, New Zealand, and beyond, with the goal of strengthening interpreting capacity and promoting inclusion across our region.

Conference Highlights

  *   Pre-conference workshop (26–27 August) for Pacific Island interpreters – practical, face-to-face training by expert facilitators.
  *   Main conference (28–29 August) featuring international and regional presenters, including the WASLI President.
  *   Graduation ceremony for participants of the first 26-week Pacific interpreter training program.
  *   Networking, professional development, and regional collaboration opportunities.
  *   Steps toward formally registering WASLI Oceania as a legal regional entity for sustainable growth.

Why It Matters
With no formal interpreter training programs in the Pacific Islands, this conference is a critical step in building skills, recognition, and support for interpreters, ensuring Deaf persons have equal access to information and services.
