This has been a great achievement<br>for persons with disabilities in Fiji whereby it will adjust the<br>structure and policies within Fiji to an inclusive development<br>approach.<br><br>The Fiji DPO present an acknowledgement letter to the Ministry of<br>Foreign Affairs, acknowledging the approval of the ratification of the<br>UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, also<br>enquiring when government will place in custody to the UN its written<br>instrument of ratification which will provide a formal evidence of its<br>consent.<br><br>On 7th June 2017, the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has deposited<br>the instrument of ratification for the UN Convention on the Rights of<br>Persons with Disabilities. The Prime Minister deposited the<br>instruments at the UN Headquarters in New York during a ceremony at<br>which he spoke of Fiji’s commitment of equality for all citizens.<br>"Today marks another historic chapter for my government in our pursuit<br>of creating equal opportunities and rights for every Fijian especially<br>those Fijians living with disabilities,” Prime Minister Bainimarama<br>said.<br>"We cannot have a progressive Fiji if one section of our community is<br>unable to participate in this process because of their disability.
