Dear PDF Family,
It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of our esteemed colleague, Mr. Molomolo Touaisi, who served as the Acting Office Manager for Fusi Alofa. Mr. Touaisi became Acting Manager of FA in Tuvalu after the passing of FA General Manager, Mr. Taupaka, in December of last year. Mr. Touaisi demonstrated unwavering commitment to the development of disability services in Tuvalu. Mr. Touaisi passed away at Princess Margaret Hospital in Funafuti on Sunday.
His dedication to improving the lives of individuals with disabilities was evident in every project he undertook, and, in every interaction, he had with colleagues and community members alike. He brought a unique perspective to disability development work, advocating tirelessly for inclusivity and accessibility.
Mr. Touaisi also served as a climate champion for persons with disabilities in Tuvalu, playing a pivotal role in addressing the unique challenges this community faces amid the climate crisis. His position as the first Climate Change Officer for FA allowed him to leverage his expertise and passion to advocate for inclusive responses to climate change.
His advocacy efforts were marked by a strong commitment to ensuring that the voices of persons with disabilities were heard in discussions about climate adaptation and resilience strategies. Mr. Touaisi advocated with his island council to develop his Nui Island strategy which considered the specific needs of individuals with disabilities, promoting inclusiveness in environmental planning and response initiatives.
As we reflect on his contributions, let us remember Mr. Touaisi not only for his professional achievements but also for his kindness, compassion, and his ability to inspire those around him. His legacy will continue through the impact he made on our organization and the lives he touched.
On behalf of PDF, I extend my deepest condolences to Mr. Touaisi's family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. We stand together in mourning this significant loss while celebrating a life dedicated to service.
In solidarity,
Sainimili Tawake,
Chief Executive Officer
