Bula Seta,

Derrick and I are saddened by the news of Angie's passing. She was a champion who was well known and well loved.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Pacific Disability Forum as well as all her family and friends.

As we continue to serve the Pacific, let us emulate Angie's selflessness and passion so she continues to live through our work.

Sincerely,

Ann Cheryl and Derrick Armstrong

Subject: [PDFlist] Vale Ms. Angeline Chand

To All Members, Partners, Friends and Supporters of the Pacific Disability Forum (PDF)

It is with a heavy heart and deep sorrow this Sunday evening that I share with you all the terrible news of the untimely passing of yet another long-time disability leader, champion and warrior in the disability movement here in the Pacific and beyond, Ms. Angeline Chand who left us around 8:00pm last night at the Oceania Private Hospital here in Suva, Fiji. Angie as fondly known to many of us succumbed to her illness which she had been battling the last few months after losing her husband and wonderful colleague of ours a little more than a year ago, the Late Mr. Rakesh Chand.

The late Ms. Angeline Shobna Maharaj-Chand joined PDF in April 2008 as the Programme Officer responsible for Gender, Youth and DPO Development. Angie also held other key roles in the organisation over the last 15 years and 11 months including Team Leader Programmes, Gender and Human Rights Adviser, and more recently as the Coordinator – Member Services Unit, the position she held until the time of her passing. The Pacific OPD Fund is a living testimony to Angie’s service in PDF.

The late Rakesh and Angeline Chand left behind one child, that wonderful Alvis and our thoughts as well as prayers are with him and the Chand family at this time. Alvis informed me this afternoon that her Mum’s funeral is scheduled for the coming Friday, 08 March 2024.

I have the great fortune of working with Angie for over 30 years in helping build our movement here in Fiji, the Pacific and beyond through the World Blind Union (WBU), Disabled Peoples International (DPI), and now through PDF. This journey is becoming even more lonelier as these dynamic, committed, passionate and thoughtful leaders like Angie continue to leave us. I sincerely hope Angie’s legacy will inspire all of us, particularly our sisters with disabilities to continue their work in making our Blue Pacific Continent more inclusive, gender-equitable, peaceful and resilient for all its peoples, including those of us with disabilities.

Thank you so much Angie for your long and selfless service to our community and may your soul rest in peace!

Seta
