Subject: Announcing Call for Papers: 2025 SPEVI conference

Dearest friends,

As you may know, the next SPEVI conference will be held early next year. I would love to receive some great abstracts from our blue Pacific region and beyond so I was hoping you could disseminate my Email below to your networks in order to maximise involvement.

Thanks so much!

On behalf of the 2025 SPEVI Conference Organising Committee (SCOC,) I am very pleased to formally announce we are accepting abstracts for next year's South Pacific Educators in Vision Impairment (SPEVI) conference which will be held from 13/15 January 2025 at the University of Southern Queensland City Campus in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

We are seeking interesting, engaging, dynamic, thought provoking, educational, participatory, memorable, unique and exciting presenters who will explore a plethora of topics, ideas and research with a wide audience of educators, parents, students and others connected to and interested in the education of students with vision impairment and additional disabilities. If you're currently working on a first of its kind research project, have a great idea that will assist teachers, parents and students, have a cool product that bridges the accessibility gap or just want to brainstorm with like minded professionals, we want to hear from you!

Our conference, the largest gathering of vision professionals in the Oceania region provides presenters an ideal platform to showcase the latest trends and happenings across the sector with a guaranteed engaged and informed delegate list who will benefit from your work.

We encourage presenters to focus on any area of interest relevant to education of students with vision impairment and additional disabilities but if you are looking for ideas, you could consider our theme for the 2025 conference: "EmPOWERment through connection, inclusion and education". This conference will place emphasis on the voice of students and young people; your presentation could demonstrate voices of young people and how they shape inclusive education now and in the future. Our conference also coincides with the 70th anniversary of the first gathering of teachers of students with vision impairment in Australia, a gathering that was to transform into the SPEVI organisation we have today and ongoing celebrations of the 200th anniversary of Braille.

Being a fully hybrid event, your presentation should be maximised for enjoyment amongst a live audience and delegates tuning in online.

Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific, the world! Abstracts are welcome from anyone, anywhere!

Check out our dedicated website: http://www.speviconference.net to keep up to date with the conference program as it evolves and to submit your abstract, simply choose the relevant link on the front page and fill out the form.

We will be accepting abstracts until Friday, 30 August 2024.

As the SCOC continues to build a memorable, informative and sensationally exciting conference, the first hybrid event ever for SPEVI and the first face to face gathering since 2020, your contribution via the sharing of ideas and research through your presentation will play a vital role in the success of this great event.

If you can, please distribute this invitation amongst your networks, far and wide across the globe. Also, if you know anyone who is interested in becoming a SPEVI member, our website can be found at: http://www.spevi.net

Benefits for members are useful and various, including exclusive conference rates, communities of practice events, discounts on professional learning opportunities and so much more. There is a membership category to suit every budget and status within the vision impairment community and all members automatically have 2-years before the need to renew. Also, full membership of SPEVI is free for Pacific Islanders resident in Pacific nations.

We on the SCOC and wider SPEVI community so look forward to receiving your abstract!

Kindest regards,

Ben Clare, Secretary and Vice President, South Pacific Educators in Vision Impairment Inc.
