As a follow-up to my email below, I wish to inform that as of this afternoon, I haven't received any nomination yet for the Certificate of Appreciation or Disability Pasifika Award. However, I do have some good news to share with you all. The closing date for receipt of nominations is now extended to Monday, 20 February 2023 at 11:59pm Fiji time. This means that you have more time to send in those nominations.

A very good Friday evening from your secretariat in Suva, Fiji. With the approval of the PDF Awards Committee comprising of Co-Chairperson Ms Villaney Remengesau, Co-Chairperson Mr Latoa Halatau-Talagi, Ms Samantha French and Ms Penelope (Penny) Price, I now call for nominations from members of the Pacific Disability Forum (PDF) for the following awards:


  1.  Certificate of Participation Award - This award will be presented to an individual or organisation from any Pacific Island country or territory to honour their significant contribution to the well being, human rights and advancement of persons with disabilities in Pacific Island countries and territories which include American Samoa, Australia, Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, Kiribati, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Republic of Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu as well as Wallis and Futuna.

It is most unfortunate that I am unable to provide the list of previous recipients of this award which was presented during our 5th Pacific Regional Conference on Disability held in Apia, Samoa in February 2017. My sincere apology to our colleagues who were presented with the certificate of Appreciation award for this oversight.



  1.  Disability Pasifika Award - This is the highest award of the Pacific Disability Forum and will be presented to a person with disability from any Pacific Island country or territory to honour their outstanding contribution that has made a difference in the delivery of services to and awareness, protection and recognition of the human rights of persons with disabilities in Pacific Island countries and territories which include American Samoa, Australia, Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, Kiribati, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Republic of Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu as well as Wallis and Futuna.

Previous recipients of the Disability Pasifika Award include:

  *   The late Sumasafu (Sam) Vilsoni, Fiji - 2011
  *   Mr Setareki S. Macanawai, Fiji - 2011
  *   Ms Angeline Chand, Fiji - 2015
  *   Ms Mataafa Faatino Utumapu, Samoa - 2017
  *   Mr Joshco Wakaniyasi, Fiji - 2019



  1.  PLEASE NOTE:

  *   Nomination form for the certificate of Appreciation and Disability Pasifika Awards are attached to this email.
  *   Nominate one individual or organisation only in one Certificate of Nomination form. Ensure that you follow the criteria provided for this award.
  *   Nominate one person with disability only in a Disability Pasifika Award nomination form. Ensure that you follow the criteria provided for this award.
  *   Make sure your nomination form is complete before you submit it by email to @Setareki Macanawai<mailto:Setareki.Macanawai at pacificdisability.org> and copy to @Arieta Dumaru<mailto:Arieta.Dumaru at pacificdisability.org> before the closing date.
  *   The closing date for receipt of nominations for both awards is Friday, 17 February 2023 at 11:59pm Fiji time.
  *   All valid nominations received will be forwarded to the PDF awards Committee for their deliberation and decision.
  *   Recipients of both the Certificate of Appreciation and Disability Pasifika Awards will be announced and awards presented by the PDF Co-Chairpersons at the opening ceremony of the 7th Pacific Regional Conference on Disability to be held in Nadi, Fiji on Tuesday, 28 February 2023.
