>From the World Health Organisation and PDF:
Assistive products like glasses, walking aids, continence products and therapeutic footwear are life-changing products that are needed by more than 2.5 billion people around the world today. The World Health Organization (WHO) is launching a ground-breaking online resource designed to increase the assistive technology workforce, with a focus on simple, priority assistive products.
Training in Assistive Products (TAP) is an open access online training resource to prepare primary health and other personnel to fulfil an assistive technology role. This may include identifying people who may benefit from assistive technology; providing simple assistive products such as reading glasses or elbow crutches; or referral for more complex products and other services.
As such, on November 19th, 2022 a launch webinar will take place from 13:00 – 14:00 CET, hosted by WHO. The event will be in English with live interpretation in Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish and international sign. There will also be live captioning.
Register for the webinar here: https://who.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_S5dWCS6CSE2EhKFDHPn2AQ
The Pacific Disability Forum will also be presenting on the potential impact of TAP from the perspective of people who need and use Assistive Technology.
TAP is a free online interactive and accessible learning resource. It has been in development for a few years, and has been really well received in the 11 countries where it has been implemented so far. This includes Papua New Guinea, Fiji and a few smaller module tests in other countries in the Pacific.

Subject: Request to speak at the Launch of the WHO Training in Assistive Products - 10 November
Dear Seta, Faatino and Villaney,
I trust that you are all well.
I am delighted to have this opportunity to reach out to you, in order to invite PDF to assist the WHO Assistive Technology team in the webinar launch of our Training on Assistive Products (TAP), on 10 November 2022 (13.00 – 14.00 CET).
As you may know, TAP is a free online interactive and accessible learning resource. It has been in development for a few years, and has been really well received in the 11 countries where it has been implemented so far. This includes Papua New Guinea, Fiji and a few smaller module tests in other countries in the Pacific.
TAP is designed to make AT more accessible for all those in need, as close to their homes as possible. It targets the significant AT workforce gaps at primary and community-level, so that AT needs can be more readily identified, and where possible to provide simple assistive products safely and effectively. TAP is also a helpful resource for AT users, and all of the videos demonstrating how to fit and use different simple assistive products have been made available on YouTube for easy access by those who use these products.
To assist us in the launch, we would be delighted to have a PDF representative to speak during the launch webinar. We are hoping that perhaps either Faatino or Villaney would be available, as we want to ensure a strong female voice in this webinar. The request is for a 4 minute presentation on the potential impact of TAP from the perspective of people who need and use AT. This would be part of a 30 minute session involving six other speakers. The entire launch will take one hour and we would love it if you could join us live online. However, as I know that the time zone may not be very Pacific friendly, a pre-recorded speech would be fine.
Please see the attached Word document with more details about the webinar. You can also read more about the TAP launch on the WHO website: https://bit.ly/3UHhRMQ
Finally, we would also be delighted if you can help to disseminate information about the launch, and TAP, using the attached flyer, through Pacific networks.
I look forward to hearing from you,
With my best wishes as always,
Kylie
