Strengthening protection of persons with disabilities within UNHCR’s mandate IDA and UNHCR Webinar Series

As part of their strategic partnership, UNHCR and IDA are launching a webinar series to provide organizations of persons with disabilities as well as displaced and stateless persons with disabilities a platform to enhance their understanding and engage in interactive dialogue on means to enhance protection and participation of persons with disabilities under UNHCR's mandate.

Captioning, International Sign interpretation, as well as interpretation to French, Arabic and Spanish will be provided for all webinars.

Webinar 2: Towards 2nd Global Refugee Forum: How you can get involved
Date and time: Monday November 14, 2pm-3:30pm CET.

The webinar offers a general introduction on objectives of Global Refugee Forum (GRF). It answers to questions on how different groups and organizations can get involved and engagement of OPDs in the Global Refugee Forum matters.

Webinar 3: Understanding the protection mandate of UNHCR and connections for persons with disabilities
Date and time: Monday November 21, 2pm-3.30 pm CET.

In this webinar, participants will enhance their understanding about UNHCR’s protection mandate. First, we will discuss about statelessness, including the definition, causes of statelessness and how to prevent and address statelessness. The webinar will also discuss how statelessness impacts persons with disabilities. The other half of the webinar introduces some of the connections between the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and refugee law. The intersections can be found in relation to access to processes, in the claim for a refugee status and in access to rights and services as a recognized refugee with disabilities. Participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences.

Webinar 4: Gender-based violence and forcibly displaced women with disabilities
Date and time: Monday November 28, 2pm-3.30 pm CET.

As organized during the 16 days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, this webinar enhances knowledge and sensitivity among UNHCR colleagues and partners working on prevention and response to gender-based violence as well as gender and disability advocates about violence against forcibly displaced women with disabilities. The webinar presents ways to enhance access and inclusion to prevention, support system and remedies.

Webinar 5: The Year End Consultation with OPDs and refugees with disabilities
Date and time: Monday December 5, 2pm-3.30 pm CET.

The year-end consultation offers space for organizations of persons with disabilities and refugees with disabilities to shape the agenda for the collaboration between IDA and UNHCR. The aim is to shape three key asks for 2023 disability inclusion agenda.
