*Background:  *

The rising temperatures are fueling environmental degradation, natural disasters, weather extremes, food and water insecurity, economic disruption, conflict, and political upheaval. Sea levels are rising, the Arctic is melting, coral reefs are dying, oceans are acidifying, and forests are burning. Yet, persons with disabilities are inadequately included in climate and resilience policies and programs, and hardly access climate decision making processes.



Persons with disabilities, their representative organizations and their allies are increasingly demanding to play an active role in climate decision making at different levels. According to the UN CRPD, participation and active involvement in all decisions that affect persons with disabilities is a human right for them and an obligation for all States Parties to the Convention. On the other hand, according to the UN Disability Inclusion Strategy, all UN agencies are committing to promote and facilitate participation of persons with disabilities in their processes and mechanisms which include climate action decisions and processes.
