Truly a huge loss for Samoa, our region and our growing collective efforts on disability data. Fono, you will be certainly missed and may your leadership, passion and commitment encourage the rest of us to build on your legacy!

Dear Washington Group members,
It is with great sorrow that we share that Aliimuamua Malaefono (Fono) Ala Taua Faasalaina, Chief Statistician of the Samoa Bureau of Statistics (SBS) and long-time supporter of the Washington Group on Disability Statistics, has passed away. This is indeed a profound loss to the SBS, and also to the entire global disability data community. The important work that Fono did to advance disability measurement and data in the Pacific region will be an enduring legacy. Fono's friendship and contributions to the Washington Group will very much be missed. In particular, we will remember Fono’s efforts to establish the first regional disability statistics group, the Pacific Group on Disability Statistics, which served as a model for the establishment of other regional disability statistics groups across the globe.
For further details on Fono and her impressive achievements, you may view the message of the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Samoa Aliimuamua Malaefono Ala Taua Faasalaina, a great professional of the Government of Samoa and a dedicated partner of all UN agencies. | United Nations in Cook Islands, Niue, Samoa and Tokelau< https://urlsand.esvalabs.com/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsamoa.un.org%2Fen%2F158596-aliimuamua-malaefono-ala-taua-faasalaina-great-professional-government-samoa-and-dedicated&e=17c5563b&h=4dfcd440&f=n&p=y >.
Please join us in sending the SBS our sincere condolences.
