The Pacific Disability Forum (PDF) welcomes Mereoni Daveta as its newly appointed Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID) Program Officer.
"PDF welcomes Mereoni to the team and are delighted to have her experience and capability in the area of disability inclusion, and an accomplished education officer in the area of special and inclusive education", said PDF CEO Setareki Macanawai
Prior to joining PDF, Mereoni worked with the Oceania Paralympic Committee providing executive support and monitoring and evaluation of the National Board. She was a former Disability Inclusion Coordinator with the Access to Quality Education Program (AQEP) an Australian Aid funded program in Fiji where she conducted nationwide consultation on inclusive education with stakeholders and Disabled Persons Organisations.
PDF CEO further stated that Mereoni's extensive experience and education would add value to the work in the area of disability inclusion in Fiji and the Pacific region.
Mereoni has a Masters of Special Education from the University of Waikato and a Bachelor of Education from Auckland College of Education. She is the current Vice-Chair of the International Council for Education of people with visual impairment (ICEVI) Pacific Region and the current Secretary General for the Fiji Paralympic Committee.
"I hope to use my extensive experience and network in the region to further the work of community based inclusive development and I am no stranger to the disability community where I have previously done consultations, resource development, advocacy and awareness work", said Mereoni.
In her new role, she will ensure the successful coordination, implementation, monitoring & evaluation of PDF program activities related to community based inclusive development. She will also support the work of PDF on two other initiatives; the development of an accessibility blueprint and assistive technology services in the region. Mereoni will be part of the PDF secretariat Programme Team.
