Subject: Call for abstracts/proposals for the 3rd CBR World Congress
Dear Dr. Simi,
Greetings from the CBR Global Network (CGN).
We are requesting you and those you know to consider submitting abstract/s for the 3rd CBR World Congress to showcase to the community of persons with disability good practice of your work on food and climate justice – action on the ground to mitigate the impact of climate change in your program area. If your abstract includes good practice of inclusion of persons with disability in your work, it would add value to the learning of delegates. The aim of the Congress is to build solidarity among community of persons with disabilities and other marginalized groups. Showcasing innovation and using social media in social action and change is also a priority.
We have great pleasure in launching the website of the 3rd CBR World Congress in July 2020 in Uganda.
We are now calling for the submission of abstracts/ proposals, presentations and workshops for the Congress: http://cbrglobalnetwork.org/<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=http%3a%2f%2fcbrglobalnetwork.org%2f&c=E,1,Dc4MsMybJouU1g4kBGgg7rcc7oQDAOfeuQUv4zIdicZtjwZg8kBVVjPNmLcBA1OyyDvB0SGtjK6vDb-aVNp4vBJCJew1fElC4w5rEW-T4R_4Sz21&typo=1>
Could you please circulate this email as widely as possible among your networks, partners and to potential presenters/facilitators. We particularly welcome abstracts/proposals from people who are not academics but are practitioners with something interesting to share.
We are expecting about a thousand delegates to the Congress from all over the world.
We are delighted that this congress will be held in Uganda since 2020 is also the year that the CBR Africa Network (CAN) will celebrate its 20th year of promoting and supporting CBR.
The Government of Uganda, Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development (MGLSD) will officially host the Congress along with CGN, CAN, the International Disability and Development Consortium (IDDC) and World Health Organization (WHO). On behalf of all of them, we extend a warm welcome to all of you to this landmark event.
You will have seen in the initial Congress concept note that the 3rd CBR World Congress is inviting for the first time representatives from other marginalized groups such as women, ethnic minorities, members of the aging population and other such marginalized and activist groups. We are calling for multi-sectoral collaboration across UN and other agencies and Governments and for solidarity between peoples and groups to work together on inclusion of people with disabilities.
The Congress is calling for abstracts / proposals for presentations and workshops on a wide range of topics, for example food justice, women’s rights, the role of carers, disaster risk reduction, people affected by neglected tropical diseases, as these relate to people with disabilities and their families, that are innovative and practical – and even provocative with a focus on learning for all the participants. We particularly encourage presentations from under-represented groups and presentations in unusual and innovative formats. Whatever the format, we expect all the presentations to be participative and engaging – creating dialogue with one another, not just talking at people!
Our aim at the Congress is twofold: to promote solidarity among marginalized groups and to share innovative ideas on inclusion, including through the use of digital technology and social media for social action.
The underlying links between the topics of interest listed on the website are empowerment, advocacy, people’s rights, organizing communities, building alliances and intersectionality [multiply identities]. We want these six issues to be the constant thread through all the conversations at the Congress.
You can find guidelines on how to draft your summary on our website. It should be no more than 250 words, but it must include how you intend to make your presentation a dialogue rather than a lecture.
If you have any queries, please contact cbr.inclusion at gmail.com<mailto:cbr.inclusion at gmail.com> or on issues relating to Uganda, carol at afri-can.org<mailto:carol at afri-can.org> .
We look forward to receiving abstracts/proposals, workshops before the deadline of 30th November 2019.
See you in Uganda.
Warm Greetings
B. Venkatesh (Venky)
Hon. Pres. CBR Global Network (CGN)
