Hi Soloveni,
Thank you for the links. I will have a good read.
I just returned from Honiara after visiting the Deaf community and government officials. It was my ninth trip to Honiara, and there is a lot of work to do to improve the lives of Deaf people in the Solomon Islands. I've visited this country since 2011, and the Deaf community has a powerful bond compared with other Pacific Nations hence visiting there so many times.
I lived in Vanuatu for two years, and sadly, although there is a large number of Deaf people, the Deaf community doesn't exist primarily due to staying at local villages. That explains why Vanuatu Sign Language doesn't exist either. All use home signs to communicate in their communities. The Solomon Islands is completely the opposite, which has a unified Deaf community using Solomon islands Sign Language as their preferred language.
Anyway, I will read the report in the coming days.
Cheers
Brent
