Subject: [FYI & action] Asia Pacific CSO Forum + CSO engagement in Beijing+25 regional review
Dear all,
Background:
This year marks the 25th anniversary of BPFA. And as with every 5 year review, there are national, regional and global processes to review progress and work towards furthering the Beijing agenda. UNW is undertaking a review process for this with high hopes of a political declaration at the next CSW. Regional processes have begun with the various regional UNW offices and CSO organising – much like how the +20 review was. UNW Pacific office and the AP regional office have had a few meetings etc on this where some of our Pacific based organisations have participated in.
As such the Asia Pacific CSO Forum will be organised from 24-26 November 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand. The official intergovernmental review will be following this Forum at UNESCAP. You can find the details of the official review here: https://www.unescap.org/intergovernmental-meetings/asia-pacific-regional-review-25th-anniversary-beijing-declaration
CSO Steering Committee:
To ensure that civil society voices and perspectives are part of this review process, and to facilitate civil society participation, a CSO Steering Committee was formed earlier in the year. FWRM joined this Committee in June after consultations with organisations working on women’s rights issues.
The Steering Committee is constituted with a mix of regional and national organisations such as:
1. Gramya Resource Centre for Women (works on South Asia & SEA)
2. International Women’s Rights Action Watch- Asia Pacific
3. Shirkat Gah (Pakistani)
4. International Centre for Research on Women Asia Office
5. ARROW
6. DAWN
7. FWRM
8. APWLD (Secretariat)
CSO Forum Application:
After much deliberation and discussions, the CSO Steering Committee now able to invite applications from women’s rights organisations and others to attend the CSO Forum and the intergovernmental meeting for the Beijing + 25 regional review in Asia and Pacific. I encourage our Pacific women’s rights activists, women human rights defenders, young women and all interested and working on the Beijing agenda to apply through this link.
