Dear colleagues,
Greetings from UNESCAP in Bangkok. We hope this message finds you well.
As 2019 is just around the corner, the time has come to prepare ourselves for the next Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) and High-Level Political Forum (HLPF). The theme of these two critical fora in 2019 is “Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality.”
As a way to enrich the regional dialogue among governments, civil society, academia, the private sector, and other stakeholders on this theme, we are seeking inspiring, informative, and credible case studies that illustrate practical measures for empowerment and inclusion that have led to more equitable outcomes for specific vulnerable groups and communities.
Selected case studies may be featured in a variety of ways, but will mainly support analysis for a report on the theme by UNESCAP, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and UNDP to be launched at the 2019 APFSD.
The report will pay special attention to elements of an empowerment and inclusiveness approach to policy making as emphasized by the 2030 Agenda, which includes addressing harmful norms and practices (e.g., socio-cultural or institutional); protection of rights and access to justice; an enabling environment for participation and voice; and access to, and the mobilization of resources and capabilities.
Informed by a series of sub-regional consultations held in South-East Asia, the Pacific, North-East Asia, North and Central Asia, and South and South West Asia, the report will explore regional challenges such as climate action and livelihoods, resource mobilization for the SDGs, and civic participation and engagement, as well as others.
If you have direct insights on a relevant case study from the Asia-Pacific region, you are invited to fill in the form below with details related to the initiative:

Feel free to circulate this form with relevant colleagues as well, especially other stakeholders from civil society, academia, and the private sector.
Case studies may support action and improved outcomes at the household, community, provincial, national, or regional levels and help reveal the importance and impact of people-centered and planet-sensitive approaches to development.
