Women Earn Just Half of What Men Earn over 15 Years
A new IWPR study of earnings and labor force participation finds women today earn just 49 cents to the typical man's dollar when accounting for overall labor force participation, which is much less than the 80 cents usually reported. The study, Still a Man's Labor Market: The Slowly Narrowing Gender Wage Gap<http://click.icptrack.com/icp/relay.php?r=41952404&msgid=429677&act=STBU&c=1264441&destination=https%3A%2F%2Fiwpr.org%2Fpublications%2Fstill-mans-labor-market%2F> by economists Stephen J. Rose and Heidi Hartmann, measures the total earnings across the most recent 15 years for adults who worked in at least one year, finding that women workers faced an earnings gap of 51 percent in the 2001-2015 period. The authors argue that improving access to paid leave and affordable child care is critical to strengthening women's labor force attachment and the narrowing long-term the gender earnings gap.
