A Very Warm Pacific Greetings to You All!

On behalf of the governing Board, staff and members of the Pacific Disability Forum (PDF), I wish to extend our sincere appreciation and deep gratitude to all participants, presenters, funders/sponsors, sign-language interpreters, personal assistants, volunteers and supporters who joined us in Apia, Samoa last week, 20-24 February 2017 during our 5th Pacific Regional Conference on Disability. It clearly was our biggest conference yet in terms of number of participants and sessions, and most successful because of your presence, your presentation, your contribution, your support and of course your time!

We thank the Government of Australia through DFAT for its funding as well as UNDP Pacific, UNICEF Pacific and Digicel Samoa as key sponsors of this biennial regional event. We also thank the people and Government of Samoa for their financial and in-kind support towards the successful conduct of the conference. To the Board, staff and members of NOLA, our host organisation in Apia, many thanks for all the efforts and sacrifice before and during the conference, as well as to other sponsors which supported the participation of local representatives at the Regional Forum for Youth and Women with disabilities. To all self-funding participants most of whom represent our key partners in the region, what can we do without your contribution to our partnership? To you our good friend Ms. Catalina Devandas Aguillar, the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and colleague Alberto Vasquez Encalada, many thanks for travelling all the way from Geneva to join us in Samoa. You have empowered and challenged us, and also hope you both have taken back with you good memories on your short visit to our region as well as realities we face as Pacific people with disabilities! To the management and staff of Tanoa Tusitala Hotel, we thank you for providing a home away from home for all the participants.

Together we have pulled off another successful biennial regional conference. I'm sure we cannot wait to experience what the next one has to offer in 2019 somewhere in our beautiful Pacific!
