Warm Pacific greetings Lanieta,
Thank you for sharing the final steps towards the official act of ratification by the Government of Fiji to the Disability Convention , CRPD.
The Fiji disabled people past and present have worked hard to keep this goal in front of the government since 2006 when the CRPD was adopted.
This journey has built a momentum towards implementation using lessons learnt from countries that ratified all ready.
On behalf of DPOs here in Aotearoa-New Zealand, I extend our best wishes to all stakeholders, for the efforts to reach this milestone achievement recognising that this extends to the local, national , regional and international network of organisations.
This calls for a celebration for the partnerships created along the journey, and further built on in the next phase.
Best wishes.

Dear all,
Disability Rights: Fiji Ratification of the UN Convention on the
Rights of Persons with Disabilities
During the parliament sitting on Wednesday 22nd March 2017 the Fiji
Government move the motion that Fiji ratifies the UN Convention on the
Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This has been a great achievement
for persons with disabilities in Fiji whereby it will adjust the
structure and policies within Fiji to an inclusive development
approach.
The Fiji DPO present an acknowledgement letter to the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, acknowledging the approval of the ratification of the
UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, also
enquiring when government will place in custody to the UN its written
instrument of ratification which will provide a formal evidence of its
consent.
On 7th June 2017, the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has deposited
the instrument of ratification for the UN Convention on the Rights of
Persons with Disabilities. The Prime Minister deposited the
instruments at the UN Headquarters in New York during a ceremony at
which he spoke of Fiji’s commitment of equality for all citizens.
"Today marks another historic chapter for my government in our pursuit
of creating equal opportunities and rights for every Fijian especially
those Fijians living with disabilities,” Prime Minister Bainimarama
said.
"We cannot have a progressive Fiji if one section of our community is
unable to participate in this process because of their disability. We
must always be inclusive if we want to progress together as a nation
and today's event is a step further in realising that."
On behalf of the Fiji Disabled Peoples Federation, 16 branches,
National Board of Offices, management and its affiliates & all
persons living with disabilities, International,Regional and National
partners, donor agencys and Civil Society Organisations , we wish to
express our sincere appreciation for the government of the day towards
the ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of persons with
Disabilities.
Thanking you in consideration.
