Subject: Outcomes of the Forum Economic Ministers Meeting(FEMM) 2017

Dear Government Focal Points and Officials/Disability Stakeholders,

Greetings from your Disability Coordination Desk at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat based in Suva, Fiji. This email serves to share with you the outcomes of the FEMM 2017 in the attached Action Plan .

As you are aware, the new Pacific Framework on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (PFRPD): 2016 - 2025 , which was recently endorsed by the Forum Leaders in their meeting in September last year, is now being implemented and we are working towards it governance mechanism and also a costed regional action plan to seek funding for implementation of the 10 year framework. I have attached a copy for ease of reference.

The PFRPD was therefore part of the Forum Pacific Regionalism Paper submitted to FEMM to consider economics of, and also mainstreaming of, regional key issues and priorities of the leaders.

This FEMM was also the first time that Economic Ministers, Private Sector Representatives and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) had a joint dialogue on Thursday 6 April [Outcomes attached as Annex 1 to the outcomes document(Action Plan) attached].

We also thank the CEO of the Pacific Disability Forum- Mr. Setareki Macanawai for facilitating a short presentation to the FEMM on the economics of disability in the region and the need to support mobilisation of resources to assist in the implementation of the PFRPD priority goals at national level.

We also acknowledge the assistance of Mr. Alex Corte , International Disability Alliance for his expert adviser and assistance to PDF and PIFS in this important meeting.

I have highlighted the disability related sections of document FEMM Action Plan attached for ease of reference . This is useful mandate /rationale in proposing for funding and mobilisation of resources for the implementation of your national disability inclusive development initiatives with your government Finance Department.

Many of you have raised the importance of mainstreaming disability with the work of FEMM and this is the beginning - I thank you for all your hard work in lobbying for disability issues with your government delegation who attend Forum meetings and international events and your commitment to the furthering of the disability agenda nationally in order to realise our regional commitments in ensuring the improvement of the quality of life and the full enjoyment of their rights as persons with disabilities on an equal basis with others.

Congratulations to all on the achievement of yet another milestone.

Stay Blessed and with best regards

Lai
