Apologies for cross posting
Dear colleagues, friends, gender and youth champions, please consider UN Women's call for applications from the Pacific for National Gender Youth Activists. It is a monumental time for gender and youth advocates to truly own and drive the pathway to ensure the promises of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the CSW65, ICPD25, and the 2030 agenda. Please share this great opportunity widely. Warmest regards, Lorna.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: UN Women National Gender Youth Activists
The UN Women Fiji Multi-Country Office is inviting applications from young people across the Pacific region who are working on gender equality and the empowerment of women to apply to become a UN Women National Gender Youth Activist. (see call attached)
While great progress has been made since 189 governments adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA) in 1995, many young women and girls continue to be amongst the most marginalized and vulnerable. To ensure the gender-responsive implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development including the promise of leaving no one behind, UN Women must address the needs of all young women and girls, especially those facing multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination and marginalization. When considering the opportunities and scope for achieving gender equality and sustainable development, the poorest and most vulnerable groups of young women and girls must be prioritized. Despite these challenges, young people are continuously developing innovative and effective ways to mitigate these challenges and improve their lives, by bringing together their knowledge and creativity.
It is within this context that UN Women globally is mobilizing 300 National Gender Youth Activists that will drive local youth mobilization in the spirit of Generation Equality and beyond. UN Women will aim to deepen and strengthen its reach to marginalized constituencies whilst creating conditions for youth leadership in the process. (See TOR, annex 1 attached)
EXPECTATIONS OF THE GENDER YOUTH ACTIVIST:
* Participation in introductory virtual regional calls to discuss regional priorities.
* Creating a safe space for engagement, participation, information sharing and capacity building, driving the Equality agenda forward.
* Contribute to the co-creation, design and implementation of the Action Coalitions.
* Monthly strategic discussions engaging them on regional thematic priorities especially those related to Action Coalitions (Description of Action Coalitions in TOR, annex 1).
* Contributing to the curation of Commission on the Status of Women 65 (CSW65).
* Supporting and fostering momentum on youth engagement for gender equality on a national and global level by bringing and ensuring that a diverse group of youth voices are heard within the Generation Equality Campaign and Forum.
* Engaging with the Beijing+25 Youth Task Force contributing to several activities/projects for example engagement in UN Women social media series on Youth and COVID responses.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
The UN Women Fiji Multi-Country Office will accept applications from individuals who meet the following criteria:
* The applicant is between ages 18-30;
* The applicant currently resides in a Pacific Small Island Developing State covered by the Fiji MCO (Cook Islands, Fiji, Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Republic of Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu);
* The applicant is actively committed to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment;
* The applicant brings energy, creativity and critical thinking into their advocacy efforts and is making a difference in their community;
* The applicant is currently working with other young people, especially young women; and
* The applicant is working on any of the 12 Critical Areas of Concern of the Beijing Platform for Action: poverty, education and training, health, violence, armed conflict, economy, power and decision-making, institutional mechanisms, human rights, media, environment, and the girl child, as well as on emerging issues of gender equality.
The selection committee will:
* Consider diversity of representation from Pacific states;
* Adhere to the principle of leaving no one behind by ensuring diverse representation across intersectional complexities, including marital status, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, indigenous and ethnic identities, and refugee or migrant status;
* Give priority to women human rights defenders, rural, indigenous, lesbian, bi, and queer women, trans, intersex, and gender non-conforming people, disability, child widows, child brides, women living with HIV, domestic workers, migrants and refugees and women in conflict and post conflict communities.
TENURE:
The applicant will stay in term for 2 years (2020-2022) with periodic review of their work. There will be a letter of recognition of contribution at the end of their term.
TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION:
To apply, please send the following documents to Anne Rehagen (anne.rehagen at unwomen.org<mailto:anne.rehagen at unwomen.org>) by 14 August 2020:
