Seta, this is such heavy and very sad news in my heart.
I wish I was there during her time when she was sick. How I love this gentle lady, how I looked at her as my inspirator, my role model and my SISTER.

May my sister Angie Chand rest in peace, and please send my condolences to my son ALVIS.
He is a strong man and he will be fine.

I wish I can come over for her funeral.

Ko rabwa Seta and PDF. Yes, we lost one of our champions but her legacy still goes on and on and on through PDF, Te Toa Matoa and especially to her sisters in Kiribati especially me,,,,,,,,,so sad but I thank GOD for Angeline.Chand

To All Members, Partners, Friends and Supporters of the Pacific Disability Forum (PDF)

It is with a heavy heart and deep sorrow this Sunday evening that I share with you all the terrible news of the untimely passing of yet another long-time disability leader, champion and warrior in the disability movement here in the Pacific and beyond, Ms. Angeline Chand who left us around 8:00pm last night at the Oceania Private Hospital here in Suva, Fiji. Angie as fondly known to many of us succumbed to her illness which she had been battling the last few months after losing her husband and wonderful colleague of ours a little more than a year ago, the Late Mr. Rakesh Chand.

The late Ms. Angeline Shobna Maharaj-Chand joined PDF in April 2008 as the Programme Officer responsible for Gender, Youth and DPO Development. Angie also held other key roles in the organisation over the last 15 years and 11 months including Team Leader Programmes, Gender and Human Rights Adviser, and more recently as the Coordinator - Member Services Unit, the position she held until the time of her passing. The Pacific OPD Fund is a living testimony to Angie's service in PDF.

The late Rakesh and Angeline Chand left behind one child, that wonderful Alvis and our thoughts as well as prayers are with him and the Chand family at this time. Alvis informed me this afternoon that his Mum's funeral is scheduled for the coming Friday, 08 March 2024.

I have the great fortune of working with Angie for over 30 years in helping build our movement here in Fiji, the Pacific and beyond through the World Blind Union (WBU), Disabled Peoples International (DPI), and now through PDF. This journey is becoming even more lonelier as these dynamic, committed, passionate and thoughtful leaders like Angie continue to leave us. I sincerely hope Angie's legacy will inspire all of us, particularly our sisters with disabilities to continue their work in making our Blue Pacific Continent more inclusive, gender-equitable, peaceful and resilient for all its peoples, including those of us with disabilities.

Thank you so much Angie for your long and selfless service to our community and may your soul rest in peace!
