This week we are seeing the D-Day Commemoration about World War II. Troops from the UK, the US, Canada, and France attacked German forces on the coast of northern France, on 6 June 1944. It was the largest military naval, air and land operation ever attempted and marked the start of the campaign to liberate Nazi-occupied north-west Europe. Most of the photos show men fighters, as at the ceremonies now in 2019, 75 years later.
We are WOMEN FOR PEACE, and seeing the losses in World War II stir our souls.
BUT, as we look back to World War I, before our time, this period changed women's lives in the workforce forever. Here are some of the memories......
AMERICAN WOMEN WERE SHEROES OF WORLD WAR I

Large numbers of women were involved in the war effort during World War I, volunteering, working as nurses or support, or working in traditionally male jobs back home. But women were also making strides in 1917, assuming government roles (the first woman ever elected to the U.S. Congress), marching for the right to vote, even risking jail to teach others about safe birth control methods.

Unprecedented job opportunities sparked demands for equal pay. In some wartime industries, women made up l/3 of the workforce.
Women started pushing for more equality in the workforce, which energized the women's suffrage/vote movement.
Though women were not permitted in conflict service till 2013, they filled many non-combative roles in the US military during World War I.
The changes in women's roles had a very positive impact on the Women's Rights Movement of the early 20th century.
