Rural Women Rise and Claim your Rights!
Every year since 2015 we publish the 17 Days campaign for the empowerment of rural women and their communities to rise and claim their rights by addressing foremost the local- and state governments with demands for urgent action to implement the universal adoption of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995) as well as the newly adopted post-2015 Sustainable Development Agenda 2030, and in particular SDG Goal 1, 5 and 13.

Dear Friends and Partners,
We are happy to present to you the 9th edition of the WWSF “17 Days of activism for the empowerment of rural women and their communities 1-17 October".
Please remember that the Rural Women Empowerment Kit is central to your campaign activities. For this reason we stress that you familiarize yourself with new information contained in the Kit, including additional information about new ideas for general action and specific ideas about what men can do and what youth can do.

You are free to choose and develop your own action plan and events, be it at a local, national or international level. Please note that you remain completely free to focus your campaign on the theme(s) of your choice. All we ask is to serve your community for urgent action! Chose a theme, create change, and move others into action with you! You are the key to creating a more just and compassionate world.

This year, we invite you to mark three particular days:
1)  15 October - International Day of Rural Women, mobilize your community, celebrate the 2019 prizewinners and lobby your governments
2)  16 October - World Food Day - FAO, as overweight and obesity rates soar worldwide, this year, World Food Day will call for action to make healthy and sustainable diets available and affordable.

3)  17 October - International Day for the Eradication of Poverty,  presents an opportunity to acknowledge the effort and struggle of people living in poverty, a chance for them to make their concerns heard, and a moment to recognize that poor people are the first ones to fight against poverty.
