Dear Akram, Abia, Nalini, Deepti, Murali, and Della:
CC: APRCEM Asia Pacific Disability Constituency Members and Colleagues
Kindly find below some information and reminders for the onsite and
virtual/KUDO participants at next week's Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable
Development (APFSD) 2022.
*Event Information*
The Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) is an annual and
inclusive intergovernmental forum and a regional platform for supporting
countries, in particular those with special needs, in the implementation of
the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development while serving as a regional
preparatory meeting to the high-level political forum.
The Forum provides a regional perspective on the implementation of the 2030
Agenda by identifying regional trends and consolidating and sharing best
practices and lessons learned. The Forum takes into consideration the
contributions of United Nations system bodies (at the regional level),
other regional and sub-regional organizations, and relevant stakeholders. The
APFSD also supports follow-up and review of progress on the 2030 Agenda at
the regional level.
The theme of the 9th APFSD is “Building back better from COVID-19 while
advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Asia and the
Pacific”. The 9th APFSD will play a unique role as a catalyzer of solutions
and peer learning on how to accelerate transformations for the
implementation of the 2030 Agenda while recovering from COVID-19. Within
this context, the forum will provide the space for an in-depth review of
the following cluster of goals which will be reviewed by the High-Level
Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) in 2022: SDG 4 (Quality
Education), 5 (Gender Equality), 14 (Life below water), 15 (Life on Land),
and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

*WhatsApp*
I believe all of you are in our WhatsApp group chat, APFSD Disability 2022.
We'll use this for staying connected and smooth coordination of our
Constituency's statement since our participation is hybrid, with some of us
are in Bangkok and some in KUDO/virtually. Are there any onsite or virtual
participants I've missed? Please let me know.
*Constituency statements and interventions*
A longer version of the statement has been disseminated to all the
Constituency members and colleagues for final input. This same
longer version statement will be submitted to the APRCEM. I'll deliver the
shorter version at the APFSD next week and will be sent to ESCAP. The
shorter version must be presented in no more than 3 minutes.
*Programme and other information*
The APFSD will be convened in hybrid mode – physically at the United
Nations Conference Centre (UNCC), and virtually on the KUDO virtual
platform (plenary), and via Zoom (Roundtables for SDGs 4, 5, 17, 14, and 15
respectively) from 28 to 31 March 2022.
The programme, documents, and information on the side and other associated
events are available at https://www.unescap.org/events/apfsd9.
*Contributing to APFSD discussions*
If any of our Constituency members have comments or input our statement or
to the roundtables discussions, please feel free to contact me. The side
events are also listed below and I encourage you to participate.
*Public broadcast *
The APFSD plenary sessions on all days of the Forum will be broadcast via
YouTube, and links are available at the APFSD website (see
https://www.unescap.org/events/apfsd9 (Programme). The roundtable
discussions on 29 March 2022 will be not publicly broadcast.
*Side events*
- The APFSD will feature a large number of side events and the full
programme will be available on the APFSD website shortly. We invite you to
join and urge you and your colleagues and networks to also participate.
That's all for now. Keep you posted later.
Thank you for your time and continued support.
Warm regards,
Lany
