Pacific Disability Forum appoints Manager- Public Emergency Response Unit (PERU)

The Pacific Disability Forum (PDF) has recently appointed Mr. Katabwena Tawaka as its Manager - Public Emergency Response Unit (PERU). Katabwena brings with him more than 11 years' of work experience in Fiji's NGO sector and was instrumental in the development of the current PERU unit which is supported through various funding initiatives. He is currently pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma in Climate Change at the University of the South Pacific and has a Bachelor of Arts in Management & Public Administration and Journalism
"PDF is fortunate to have Katabwena take up this critical position where he will be responsible for providing leadership and support to PERU's programming initiatives, source funding, developing strategies and resource/tools; delivering training and providing technical assistance", said PDF CEO, Mr. Setareki Macanawai.
Prior to being appointed to this position, Katabwena was the Programme Manager for PDF from 2010 to 2017 and interim Manager- PERU since 2018, and hence been a critical resource in the establishment of this unit.
Katabwena's achievements include the development and implementation of Fiji's EVAW project for women & girls with disabilities, designed and wrote EVAW toolkit for Kiribati DPO Te Toa Matoa, led the development of PDF's M&E Framework in partnership with a donor-funded consultant and Co-drafted the Strategic plan with CEO after consulting members priorities amongst others.
"I am passionate about my work and hope to continue enhancing my passion for persons living with disabilities in the Pacific so they are resilient and included in society" said Katabwena.
He hopes to use his experience gained over the years to further the work of Pacific Disability Forum in the region 2020 and beyond.
