Firstly, many thanks for your support in joining me as Scrutineer Committee yet again for the 2020 PDF Board election. Much appreciated! I’m pretty sure you are following the exchange of emails in the voting delegates list serv. Now that we have successfully completed this year’s Board election, I have pasted below the email I intend to share with the PDF members, but first want to send it to you for verification please. Do let me know at your earliest convenience if it’s in order!

With the successful completion of the 2020 PDF Board election and the election to fill the one vacant position in the current Board, I as Returning Officer together with my colleague, Ms. Rose Wilkinson, CEO of Blind Citizens New Zealand constituting the election Scrutineer Committee are delighted to share with you the outcome of the 2020 Board election. 

We are pleased to declare the following individuals for the female Co-Chairperson and three Board Member positions in the PDF Board.

a.       Co-Chairperson (Female) – Ms. Villaney Remengesau, Omekesang, Palau

1.       Board Member – Ms. Samantha French, PWD Australia

2.       Board Member – Ms. Melita Delaibau, Fiji Association of the Deaf

3.       Board Member – Mr. Ofeina Leka, Tonga National Visual Impairment Association

For the vacant Board Member position; 

4.       Board Member – Mr. Teweiariki Teaero, Te Toa Matoa, Kiribati

Congratulations to the above individuals for taking up their positions in the PDF Board effective from August 2020. They will join the following serving members of the Board:

5.       Co-Chairperson (Male) – Mr. Latoa Halatau-Talagi, Vision Pacific Charitable Trust, New Zealand

6.       Board Member – Ms. Mataafa Faatino Utumapu, Nuanua o le Alofa, Samoa

7.       Board Member – Mr Mataiti Mataiti, Cook Islands National Disability Council

8.       Board Member – Ms Jacqueline Garoau, Papua New Guinea Assembly of Persons with Disabilities

I also take this opportunity to thank all voting delegates who were able to exercise their constitutional duty in electing the female Co-Chairperson and 3 Board Member positions as stated above. I will be providing to the Board a full report on the 2020 Board election during the Annual Board Meeting planned for the first week of August 2020 which will also be shared with the members at the 2021 General Forum.
