Call for Concept Notes — OSF HRI Disability and Environmental Justice Program
The main players among civil society that work on climate change are environmental organisations. Largely the success of their strategies to influence states has been limited; the groups themselves acknowledge that they need to bring in new approaches. Our support will aim to strengthen human rights approaches and tools to impact climate change.
We propose to do this in three ways: Strengthen and support a movement that brings people together to advocate influence policy and monitor its implementation; hold those most guilty to account through litigation that utilises human rights language, approaches, and law; and support national and sub-national work in up to three countries in the Global South to develop narratives and impact stories of people who have been most affected by climate change that will be used as advocacy tools at the national, regional, and international level.
1) Strengthen and support a movement that brings people together. Our niche will be to bring human rights movements, networks, and organisations, that represent the most vulnerable and impacted people, into the climate change space to work with environmental groups to influence policy and monitor its implementation at the global level and amongst countries that are some of the worst emitters.
Interested DPOs in the Pacific Island Countries are invited to submit an introductory concept note that addresses the following, in 4 pages or less:
1. State of need or situation to be addressed and how it related to rights of PWDs;
2. Proposed plan of action (very general is acceptable at concept note stage);
3. Staffing required and brief bios of participating orgs and people; and
4. Draft budget (up to $25,000USD — unless the project is joint between countries).
Please email submissions as soon as possible to kimberly.ohaver at opensocietyfoundations.org<mailto:kimberly.ohaver at opensocietyfoundations.org>
with subject line: Concept Note Submission for OSF HRI disability and environmental justice. As this is a new program of work, we ask that applicants please be patient while submissions are reviewed. OSF staff will be in contact with any questions or next steps.
